THE PORT ADELAIDE FOOTBALL CLUB (THE POWER)

In 1997 when the PAFC became South Australian's second AFL team, West End was one of the first to join up as a sponsor. Since then, the Power has won two night premierships.
WEST END SLOWDOWN
In 2000, the McGuiness McDermott foundation initiated a fundraising match called Slowdown. As the name suggests, it is a battle for supermacy between the former players of the two local AFL teams. Played at Adelaide Oval, the match attracts a huge crowd who give a gold coin donation at the gate. We're proud to support this unique venture, which raises thousands of dollars for the Foundation which in turn supports projects such as the Womens and Childrens Hospital.
SOUTH AUSTRALIAN FOOT BALL LEAGUE (SANFL)

When SANFL teams play, they are kicking a West End football. West End is the major sponsor of the SANFL with sponsorship links going back to 1954. Our sponsorship filters through to the clubs which help develop the AFL stars of tomorrow. Our sponsorship also includes the West End State Team and the West End Country State Team.
AMATEUR LEAGUE, HILLS COUNTRY LEAGUES AUSSIE RULES (SOUTH AUSTRALIA)
When it's time to celebrate another great game of community football, it's a West End beer which is the drink of choice. It is estimated that more than 10,000 players in South Australia proudly don a guernsey with a West End logo on it every weekend around the state. Our association with this grass roots competition goes back more than 20 years.
THE SOUTH AUSTRALIAN CRICKET ASSOCIATION (ACROSS ALL GRADES AND DIVISIONS)
West End's association with SACA and district cricket clubs has been going for more than 30 years. The Sponsorship has helped champions such as Jason Gillespie and Darren Lehman achieve international status from their grass roots in SA. Our sponsorship covers the West End Redbacks as well as the West End District Season and West End Cup one day series.

CHIMNEY CEREMONY

The "Brewery Chimney" tradition began in 1954 when an employee suggested that due to the fact the Brewery was in West Adelaide's territory, the chimney should be painted in the team's colours of red and black.

The then Managing Director of SA Brewing agreed - providing West Adelaide went to the top of the premiership ladder that year.

Fos Williams, then Port Adelaide captain and coach, said his team had no intention of letting West Adelaide win the premiership - and would he consider painting Port's colours on the chimney if Port won. It was agreed.
Port Adelaide beat West Adelaide in a thrilling 1954 Grand Final. It was Fos Williams who, after helping to stir the white paint, suggested that a red stripe be added to the chimney to symbolise West's gallant fight.
Ever since, the colours of both the winners and the runners-up have adorned the chimney each year.
